You're never too young to learn to cook.
What's cookin' in our classes?
We welcome children of all ages to learn to cook. Food is a part of your everyday so cooking is an important life skill we are excited to teach you. All students use kitchen equipment & tools, learn cooking & baking techniques, hygiene & food safety and so much more!
For the younger chef's we make it uniquely fun! The lessons are based on a food related children's book that we read together in class and then cook the featured food from the story. Some favorites are Green Eggs and Ham, If You Give a Pig a Pancake and The Smart Cookie.
The older chef in training will read and write recipes from cookbooks & online searches and learn to cook the basics. From recipes and demonstrations the students prepare and proudly eat their meals.
Program Features
An Apron is a Backwards Cape
This unique program offers hands on learning through the process of cooking. Student chefs get to wear the whites and take control of the spatula in the kitchen. Learning to cook gives you an undeniable skill to improve the way you live at any age. We expand your palate, prepare snacks & dishes and simply have fun. Our program includes a dash of reading, sciences, math and arts, a pinch of exploration and a cup full of cooking fun!
Science
Students will understand the science behind cooking as well learning about kitchen measurements and conversions.
Exploration
Student chefs will discover the fun in cooking, explore what a kitchen has to offer with tools and techniques, learn basic manners & standard table setting.
A Lotta' Fun
Students will learn to appreciate and value the skill of cooking while proudly eating their own food and delicious creations!

This is how we roll!
What you need to know...
Contact us for current pricing, class schedules & availability.
Classes are held weekly after school. The room assignments will be shared once the student is registered.
Class times are 1 hour directly after school unless otherwise noted.
Sessions are 10 weeks long. They coincide with school & district calendars.
Sessions are held twice a year in the Fall & Spring. Each session features new recipes, foods, stories, and of course...lots of cooking fun!
You must attend the school that you are registering for in order to participate in the cooking classes.
Open Session Info: The after-school club on Monday from 2:30-3:30 PM and Wednesday from 3:30-4:30 PM. It is open to all ages & all grade levels. You can attend any school to participate in the open session classes.
Registration is done online through your school's registration button/tab above.
Some schools may manage their registration directly, you will automatically be directed to your school in such cases. You must attend that school in order to take the cooking classes.
You must communicate allergies or dietary restrictions to teachers prior to class in order for the necessary arrangements to be made for the student.

Meet Jenna Harden
Jenna is the heart and soul behind Books & Cooks, with a desire to rekindle the lost art of cooking and instill invaluable life skills through simple, engaging cooking classes. Her journey began at age 14 when she took her first job in a restaurant, setting the stage for the appreciation of culinary arts. Throughout college she continued to work in the restaurant industry and after graduating from ASU she began her teaching career.
She is a proud mom of three beautiful children and is a loving wife to her awesome husband. Jenna temporarily pressed pause in her career to embrace the joyous chaos of babies and toddlers. Her commitment to family values shines through her belief that gathering around the dinner table is the cornerstone of a loving household.
After raising her children through their formative years, Jenna decided to rejoin the workforce. She brought her passion for cooking and education together when she established a cooking program at her children's preschool eight years ago. Over time, she nurtured and grew the program into what it is today, Books & Cooks!
